accomplishment on a rough day

Today, I woke up with a bad headache between the eyes. I'm hesitant to call it an actual migraine headache, but it was so bad that I was feeling nauseous. It was particularly inconvenient, since I was planning on getting our kitchen up and running today. I ended up sleeping about half of the day away, waiting for the headache to go away. At about 11am, I rose from my ill slumber and spent a few minutes checking email. The brightness of the laptop display hurt. The headache was still there, no thanks to the Tylenol I had taken.

Choosymom was nice enough to run to the local plumbing supply store for some last minute items that I needed to put the sink back together. She returned with everything I needed, except that she picked up a water supply line for the icemaker with one end's connection fitting too small. But that's the only braided hose they had, and I commend her for stepping foot in such a man-concentrated establishment. She even went back with the hose and the guy who worked there tried to "engineer" a solution involving some thread extenders, an additional compression nut, and a small piece of cut copper tubing. It seems less than stable, so I think I'll have to find us a proper reducer bushing tomorrow.

Other than the refrigerator's icemaker and filtered waterline, everything in the kitchen is now in place and operational. I feel quite accomplished that I was able to do this all myself. Aside from Choosymom helping me to hang the upper level of cabinets, I have faith in the concept of a one-man construction crew again (which will certainly come in handy if we can ever sell this house and get started with construction on our lot).

In other news, the mortgage company was supposed to have mailed our first check yesterday, for half of the losses. I called them to verify and surprise - they hadn't mailed it. After a bit of complaining, they finally agreed to send it today via Fedex overnight delivery. So, we'll finally be able to pay our contractor for the completed roof and drywall work, and maybe he'll pencil us back into his schedule next week to do the siding work. Aside from that, all that remains is a window above the kitchen sink and some painting. I can't wait to be done with it all, and start showing the house to potential buyers again.
