dealing with crowds or returns?

The traffic this weekend is going to be insane, since my town is in the path of the massive annual War Eagle Crafts Fair. Last year, we made the mistake of driving in the vicinity of the fair one afternoon and got stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic for over half an hour. So I'm having a bit of a dilemma with regards to our kids' Halloween costumes. We've still got two weekends to finish picking up their costume supplies, but I'd much prefer to get our shopping done this weekend rather than fighting even more crowds later. But the nearest Halloween costume stores will take us directly through "the eye" of the craft fair crowd. So, I'm debating ordering some stuff online instead.

The problem with online ordering, though, is that you don't know exactly what you're getting until it arrives, and by that time it is too late to find a suitable replacement. Or, it could get delayed in the mail unless you pay extra for guaranteed delivery. Last year, my CCCP patch just barely made it to me in time for my Russia cosmonaut costume.

Luckily we don't need to buy very much for the kids' Holiday costumes this year. Choosygirl just needs a long black wig and some black stockings to finish off her "Wednesday" costume. We may have to find a suitable dress for her to wear, though. Choosyboy wants to be Eddie Munster, so we're going to have to locate some of that temporary hair color in a spray-can to make his hair black and form a widow's peak. I'm not sure what kind of clothing he's going to wear - I doubt we'll be able to find a velvet purple blazer for him.

I've pretty much given up on my idea of playing "Cousin It", as the cheapest wigs I've been able to locate (Hannah Montana wigs - LOL) are about $5 each. And I would need a lot of them to get the right look. So back to the drawing board for me, and the clock is ticking. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if Choosymom knows what she is going to be this year, either. We'll have to do some brainstorming tonight...
