Halloween is going to be the next holiday...to sneak up on me. I have a great idea for a costume, but I'm not sure if I can afford it. I want to create a Cousin It costume based on the character from The Addams Family. To do this, I was planning on sewing a few dozen wigs to a trenchcoat. Then I could wear my prescription sunglasses on top to complete the look. It looks like the cheapest wig I can find is about $5, and seeing as I would probably need a bunch of them, that makes for an expensive costume.
For that amount of money, I could just buy a new costume, but I hate shopping at those seasonal Halloween stores that crop up in strip malls this time of the year. They're always super-crowded and in a state of disarray. It's impossible to find what you're looking for. Last year, we visited three or four of them trying to find a white balaclav-style hood with no luck. (I dressed up as a Russian Cosmonaut.) I ended up finding that and a very real looking CCCP patch online.
I'm tempted to do my shopping at an online Halloween costume store. Stores like Halloween Adventure offer easy return policies and regularly run free shipping promotions. But I can't wait until the last minute like last year. I guess I better get to it, or I may end up having to pose as like a lowly house husband.
