Choosymom and I have been painting like crazy for the last couple of days. Our kitchen is still slightly out of commission, but looking better. The kitchen and breakfast areas are now fully painted (except for the ceilings), and we decided to paint some of the wood wainscoting white. Since it was previously a dark stained woodgrain, it is requiring several coats of white paint. Even then, it appears to be a slightly different shade of white than the rest of our trim. Plus, I've had to replace several old black electrical outlets with nice bright white receptacles.
We also stopped by Lowe's today and picked up a new vinyl window that we'll install above the kitchen sink to replace the damaged garden window. Honestly, I would have liked to replace it with a newer garden window, but it just doesn't work in that location. It faces North, gets zero sunlight, and nothing grows in it. I also got about $50 for returning some plastic gutter screens that we had purchased over a year ago. They didn't fit in our gutters, and I stuck them in a corner of the garage and had forgotten about them until today. I was happily surprised that Lowe's still sold them, and were willing to give us an in-store credit, even without our year-old receipt.
We're anxious to get the cabinets re-installed, and hope to work on that soon. I'll probably have to get some help, as some are quite large and heavy, and I don't have much experience hanging cabinets. It seems like this is a never-ending home restoration project. There are just so many items on our to-do list that it is hard to prioritize them. So we're tackling one room at a time. Although my office is still a mess, we need our kitchen more than anything else. So that's where we're focusing our efforts right now.
