my kitchen, the clean room

Every couple of weeks, choosymom will bring home a new cable TV series on DVD from the local library. I generally respond with light disgust, but only because I hate to get sucked into watching another six DVD set. Since we haven't had local or cable television station on our TV for the last 3 or 4 years, we miss lots of the drama portrayed on pseudo "reality" shows, and we luckily escape much of the fear imposed by news media corporations. So I guess the occasional lapse is acceptable. The latest cable series that we have been watching is Dexter. If by some strange phenomenon you haven't heard of it (it's huge right now), the story revolves around a serial killer vigilante in Florida who leads a double life as a forensics "blood expert". I dig it.

Each time he prepares a victim for the slaughter, he encases the entire room in plastic, so as to keep any trace evidence to a minimum. My kitchen looks a little like one of those rooms right now. The drywall guys returned today, for the last time, to spray the final wall texturing. They taped off the entire kitchen with plastic sheets, but still managed to get white granules all over the carpet. I hope it comes up with a vacuum. By tomorrow, the wall texture should be dry and we'll be able to start painting and hanging our cabinets back up. Once the cabinets are back in place, we can reinstall the counter-tops and kitchen sink, and then we can actually start cooking again. I can't wait! I am so sick of eating nothing but microwave meals and sandwiches, and our bathroom sink already has a slow drain from the few times we tried washing dishes in there. I think I may have to get the insurance company to pay for some Draino.

Speaking of insurance, we're still waiting for our mortgage company to release our first payment. I am so pissed at them right now. They have finally "logged" all of the paperwork we sent them, and plan to deposit our check on Monday, setup a restricted account for us on Tuesday, and finally mail us a check on Wednesday. When I asked how they would mail it, she said "regular mail". She said she would put a note in our file requesting a Fedex shipment, but that she couldn't guarantee anything. She offered to expedite if I gave her a credit card number. (Yeah, right.) So my contractor is probably going to have to wait another 10 days before getting paid. He's just going to love that. I guess we can forget about him starting work on the exterior siding anytime soon.
